The New Zealand Kiwis are Here!!
Welcome to America!

Saturday, April 27, 2024, was a landmark day in MIDWEST GREYHOUND ADOPTION history as we welcomed our first group of racing greyhounds from New Zealand to the kennel in Sugar Grove, IL. The kennel has been very quiet since our last retired US racer was adopted in November 2022. We have had a handful of dogs in residence over the years since then, dogs needing to be rehomed for a variety of reasons. But typically it was spookily quiet, walking into a building used to the sounds of excited hounds since 1999.
MGA is one of seven US greyhound adoption groups in the Midwest area chosen to work with GREYTMATES (greytmates.co.nz) GRNZ's "rehoming organization," which is responsible for placing and tracking greyhounds after they retire. Greytmates has helped rehome over 1,000 retired racing greyhounds since 2018. Three black beauties made their way to us Saturday, April 27, 2024, after traveling more than 8,000 miles, looking for their forever homes and a couch to call their own.

GREYTMATES dogs are vetted prior to coming to us. They are accompanied by a detailed description of name, age, color and gender, size, exercise requirements, vaccination, and flea/worm history, racing history, temperament, and personality as well as tolerance for small dogs/cats, if known.

MGA is delighted to be working with GREYTMATES and GPA to find forever homes for these amazing athletes. The kennel is no longer "spookily quiet," and we are excited to assist these greyhounds in finding just the right couch!
