Houndsitting

Hound sitting...it’s a vital and valuable service that MGA provides to its membership. The feeling of knowing that you can leave your greyhound in the hands of other owners who understand the breed, and can provide a loving and safe place for them to stay is priceless. The cost is reasonable ($10 per night) as opposed to kenneling your hound(s), and all the money goes to support MGA programs, especially our medical fund. Reservations for sitting must be made at least 5-6 weeks in advance of your vacation. Available spaces fill up fast, so it is important that we you make your request to us as soon as you know your travel plans.

To reserve a spot for your hound(s), please contact Martha Swanson at 630-896-3973, or you can e-mail her at swansonplumbing@yahoo.com. Release forms are available for first time requests by contacting Martha, or downloading the form below. Martha will take all the information regarding your sit request, and then forward it to one of two schedulers, Noelle Snow for Chicago and the Northern suburbs, and Karen Kriz for the Western and Southern suburbs. You will be contacted by Noelle or Karen once they have found a sitter.

Volunteer
Have you benefited from MGA’s hound-sitting service before? Do you want to earn free sitting for your own hound? Please consider becoming an MGA dog sitter. During the summer and over the holidays, we are in urgent need of additional sitters. Our hound sitting volunteers earn MGA bucks, which they can use towards their own sitting needs. Or you can use your MGA bucks to purchase any of the hand-crafted items that MGA makes such as coats, collars and blankets. If you would like to hear from other sitters about their experiences before you volunteer, please call Martha and she will be happy to provide you with a list of referrals. Volunteer forms are available below.
